P.K. Subban praises Ovechkin, delivers sharp comments on LeBron and the NBA
Sports fans love debating who the greatest athletes of all time are, but reaching a consensus is nearly impossible. Most debates stay within a single sport, though occasionally comparisons cross those lines. A recent example came after NHL superstar Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal-scoring record last season.

Some fans and analysts argued that LeBron James’ NBA scoring record was even more impressive, but former NHL defenseman P.K. Subban strongly disagreed.
“Alex Ovechkin has been more durable than LeBron James over his career,” Subban said, clearly fired up. “Based on the sport he’s playing, we can’t compare these two. I think it’s borderline insulting.”
Subban went on to highlight the physical demands of hockey compared with basketball:
“Number one, 82 games we play — the same amount as basketball. There is no way anyone on this planet is going to convince me that LeBron James’ body has been put through more wear and tear, more physical grind, than a hockey season. What are we even talking about here?”
It was clear Subban wasn’t backing down, using his comments to firmly defend hockey and its unique challenges.
