Saban’s Stunner: Legendary Coach’s Advisory Role Pays Higher Base Than His Championship Coaching Run!

According to paperwork obtained by 247Sports, former Alabama coach Nick Saban will receive $500,000 annually in his new advisory position with the university. In actuality, that amount exceeds the $305,000 base salary he received in 2023—his last season as the Crimson Tide’s leader.

Naturally, his profits are more complex than that base pay. Due to incentives and other planned payments included in his prior contract, Saban’s actual remuneration was well into the eight-figure range.

In 2022, Saban agreed to a new deal with Alabama that included that $305,000 basic compensation and was reportedly for $93.6 million over eight years. It also included an annual talent fee of more than $9 million. At the time, Saban was the highest-paid college football coach overall.
According to AL.com, Alabama gave Saban $858,716 in February, a little more than a month after he declared his retirement. With a 40-hour workweek, he will earn $41,666 in his advising position.

As an advisor, Saban will have an office inside Bryant-Denny Stadium in Alabama. He will also be a college football analyst on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

Former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer, Saban’s replacement, was offered a 10-year contract by Alabama that pays $10 million in the first year and increases by $250,000 per year after that. In 2023, DeBoer earned $4.2 million while leading Washington to their first appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
