Saskatchewan Roughriders mailbag breaks down Ajou replacement, draft outlook, and training camp storylines

This edition of the mailbag focuses on answering fan questions surrounding the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they approach a crucial period with the CFL Draft and training camp just around the corner.

With the 2026 CFL Draft set to begin, the Roughriders will have an important opportunity to strengthen their Canadian depth, followed by additional selections in the Global Draft. Shortly after, the team will head to Saskatoon for rookie camp in early May, before transitioning into full training camp as preparations ramp up for the new season.

As defending Grey Cup champions, expectations remain high, but there are still several key decisions to be made before their season opener in June.

One of the main talking points is the receiving corps, particularly following the departure of Ajou Ajou, who was released earlier this month due to a breach of team rules. His exit has left a noticeable gap, especially since he was expected to play a significant role after featuring in the Grey Cup.

Looking ahead, the Roughriders are likely to continue with three starting Canadian receivers, with Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker set to lead the group. The question now is who will step in to fill the remaining spot.

One strong candidate is Dhel Duncan-Busby, a former third-round draft pick who has already shown promise. Over the past two seasons, he has contributed solidly when called upon, recording 45 receptions for 543 yards and two touchdowns. With more experience under his belt, this upcoming campaign could present him with a real chance to establish himself as a regular starter.

General manager Jeremy O’Day has indicated that Duncan-Busby is highly regarded within the squad and is deserving of a bigger role, suggesting the team is keen to give him the opportunity to step up and claim that position.

As the draft approaches and training camp looms, all eyes will be on how the Roughriders address this gap and shape their roster for another title push.
