Update emerges on William Karlsson after injury sends him to hospital

The situation surrounding William Karlsson has taken a worrying turn for the Vegas Golden Knights, with head coach John Tortorella offering a cautious and pessimistic update on the forward’s condition.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Tortorella declined to go into medical specifics but made it clear that Karlsson is highly unlikely to feature again in the remainder of the Stanley Cup Final.

He stressed the importance of the veteran centre to the team, highlighting his role down the middle, on the penalty kill and power play, and describing him as a proven winner. However, he admitted Vegas will now have to cope without him, saying the responsibility must be shared across the roster rather than replaced by one individual.

Karlsson picked up the injury in Game 5 following a heavy collision with Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Sean Walker. He immediately left for the dressing room, was later seen favouring his arm, and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The timing is a major setback for Vegas, as Karlsson had only recently returned from a long-term absence of around six months due to an undisclosed injury. Since rejoining the lineup in the playoffs, he had quickly re-established himself as a key contributor, producing nine points in 14 post-season games.

His return also helped balance the Golden Knights’ forward lines, including allowing adjustments such as moving Mitch Marner to the wing. Now, with Vegas facing a crucial Game 6 and possible elimination, Karlsson looks set to miss the remainder of the series, leaving the team with a significant void in a pivotal moment.
