Calgary Stampeders have secured the future of franchise quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. after agreeing to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2028 season.

The veteran quarterback had originally been scheduled to hit free agency following the 2026 campaign, but Calgary moved early to lock down one of the Canadian Football League’s most dynamic playmakers.

Adams Jr.’s new agreement was negotiated by Saskatoon-based agent Chris Lambiris of Lambo Sports Group.

According to reports, the 33-year-old is set to earn $500,000 in 2026, including a $225,000 signing bonus, $210,000 base salary, and additional housing, travel, and marketing payments.

Calgary originally acquired Adams Jr. in a blockbuster November 2024 trade with the BC Lions, surrendering two second-round picks and a fourth-round selection in exchange for draft picks and the experienced signal-caller.

The move quickly paid off. During the 2025 regular season, Adams Jr. completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 4,247 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions across 17 starts. He also added another dimension on the ground, rushing for 332 yards and three touchdowns while helping guide the Stampeders to an 11-6 record.

Although Calgary fell narrowly to B.C. in the West Semi-Final, Adams Jr. still delivered an impressive playoff performance, throwing for 334 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

Across a CFL career spanning nine seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saskatchewan Roughriders, BC Lions, and Calgary, Adams Jr. has established himself as one of the league’s premier dual-threat quarterbacks.

The former University of Oregon and Eastern Washington University standout has thrown for more than 20,000 career passing yards while accounting for 143 total touchdowns through the air and on the ground.

His standout CFL campaign came in 2023 with the Lions, when he led the league in passing yards with 4,769 and guided the club to a 12-6 record.

The new contract could see Adams Jr. earn up to $565,000 in 2027 and as much as $580,000 in 2028 through bonuses and incentives, with part of his final-year salary guaranteed.

After finishing among the CFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks in 2025, Calgary’s latest move confirms Adams Jr. remains central to the franchise’s plans moving forward.
