The main reason revealed why Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis was missing from practice ahead of their big game against Carolina Hurricanes
Martin St. Louis was temporarily forced to step away from the Montreal Canadiens ahead of their crucial playoff matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, with assistant coaches overseeing practice in his absence.
The Canadiens confirmed that St. Louis had missed the session and the team’s flight to Carolina due to personal family matters, though the organisation initially chose not to provide additional details surrounding the situation.
The timing sparked concern given the significance of the moment, with Game 1 against Carolina scheduled less than a day later. Speaking on BPM Sports, former NHL player and analyst Georges Laraque noted that when a head coach leaves his team during the playoffs, it often signals a serious personal matter.
However, further reports later shed light on the real reason behind the absence. According to journalist Maxime Truman, St. Louis reportedly stepped away for a positive family occasion involving his son, Mason St. Louis.
The Canadiens coach is believed to have taken advantage of the short break between playoff rounds to attend Mason’s high school graduation ceremony, which reportedly took place Tuesday evening. As a result, he missed practice and the team flight before later rejoining the group.
Given the strong emphasis on family values within the Canadiens dressing room, the decision is said to have been fully supported internally, with players and staff understood to be behind St. Louis during the special family moment
