Toronto Argonauts have strengthened their training camp roster with the addition of American defensive back Theran Johnson.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defender joins the Argonauts after concluding his college football career at the University of Oregon in 2025. During his lone season with the Ducks, Johnson contributed 17 tackles, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability in the secondary.

Before making the move to Oregon, Johnson spent three seasons at Northwestern University between 2022 and 2024, where he established himself as a reliable defensive presence. Across 34 appearances for Northwestern, he recorded 103 tackles, three interceptions, and 21 pass deflections, emerging as one of the program’s standout defensive backs.

The Indianapolis native earned further recognition for his performances in 2024 when he was named to the All-Big Ten second team, highlighting the consistency and impact he brought to the Wildcats’ defence.

Toronto will now look to assess Johnson’s potential during training camp as he aims to earn a permanent place in the squad and make the jump to the Canadian Football League.
