Brendan Shanahan linked with potential NHL takeover in the next 48 hour
The New Jersey Devils have dismissed general manager Tom Fitzgerald following a disappointing season that fell short of expectations.
The decision comes amid a wave of major changes across the NHL, with notable figures like Bruce Cassidy, Patrick Roy, and Brad Treliving also recently losing their roles.

Fitzgerald, who had been in charge since 2020, led the Devils to just two playoff appearances during his tenure. With the team underperforming this season, fans had increasingly called for change, and many have reacted positively to the news of his departure.
The organization is now expected to undergo a full front-office overhaul, with reports suggesting that members of Fitzgerald’s management team have also been let go. This leaves the Devils heading into the offseason without a general manager in place.
Meanwhile, Brendan Shanahan has already been linked with a potential return to the franchise in a senior leadership role.
Interestingly, Fitzgerald may not be out of work for long, as he has reportedly emerged as a candidate for the vacant GM position at the Nashville Predators, according to NHL insiders.
