Regina native Mitchell Picton could end his CFL career as a Grey Cup champion, according to Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Jeremy O’Day. “We haven’t spoken to Mitch extensively,” O’Day said. “My understanding is he probably won’t play, but we need to confirm that with his agent.”

Picton, 30, has spent nine seasons with his hometown team after being selected in the fifth round (37th overall) of the 2017 CFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver has appeared in 64 regular-season games and five playoff matches, recording 96 catches for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 11.3 yards per reception. He has earned praise for his versatility.

Before turning pro, Picton starred at the University of Regina (2013–2017), playing 37 Canada West games and posting 169 receptions for 2,431 yards and 24 touchdowns. He set the program record for career touchdown receptions and tied the single-season record with 11 TD catches in 2016, earning Canada West all-star and first-team All-Canadian honors. His cousin, Noah Picton, won the Hec Crighton Trophy that same year.

The 112th Grey Cup could be Picton’s final CFL game. Saskatchewan finished first in the West Division in 2025 with a 12-6 record and went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes for the franchise’s first championship in 12 years.

The team excelled on both sides of the ball, led by Trevor Harris at quarterback, A.J. Ouellette as the top rusher, KeeSean Johnson as the leading receiver, and A.J. Allen as the leading tackler.
