Injuries to Carlsson and Brodin prompt Sweden to call up replacements
Team Sweden has confirmed that forward Leo Carlsson and defenseman Jonas Brodin will miss the 2026 Winter Olympics due to injury.
“We’ll give it a few more days to see if anything extraordinary happens, but currently we are operating under the assumption they won’t be playing in the Olympics,” head coach Sam Hallam said.

“Both of them are amazing players and amazing people, and it looks like they won’t get a chance to play. I feel their pain. We’ll see what our next steps are with regards to our team and our roster. We remain confident in the depth available to us.”
Carlsson has been replaced by Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Johansson, while Brodin will be replaced by Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm.
Johansson was considered a likely replacement from the start, and sources indicate Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund was also in contention.
On defense, Lindholm’s call-up comes as a bit of a surprise, as many expected the team to turn to Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm or St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg.
