Latest trade update on Jordan Binnington move to Edmonton Oilers

Published

on

Goaltending has long been a problem for the Edmonton Oilers, stretching back through Connor McDavid’s entire career.

The last time they had stability in net was likely under Dwayne Roloson, with the most recent true star goalie being Curtis Joseph in the late 1990s.

This season, speculation has surfaced again. NHL insider Nick Kypreos reported that Oilers GM Stan Bowman has expressed interest in St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, possibly in a trade that could also involve a defenseman, with Stuart Skinner potentially heading to St. Louis.

However, such a deal would require the Oilers to clear salary cap space.

There’s reason for skepticism. Kypreos’ track record in recent years leans heavily on speculation, and it’s unclear whether Binnington would actually improve Edmonton’s goaltending over Skinner, especially at a higher cap cost.

colleague Elliotte Friedman added that Binnington would likely have to agree to waive his no-trade clause, suggesting he may not be interested in moving to Edmonton.

Overall, this appears to be just another rumor, and the chances of it materializing seem slim.
