New GM named at Vancouver Canucks as two franchise icons come on board

The Vancouver Canucks appear to be entering a major reset at the top of their hockey operations after a difficult season that reportedly led to the dismissal of former general manager Patrik Allvin earlier in the campaign. In response, the franchise is now turning to a blend of fresh leadership and familiar faces in an effort to stabilise and rebuild the organisation.

Multiple reports suggest that Evan Gold is set to take over as the club’s new leading executive, stepping into a key decision-making role as the Canucks look to reshape their future direction. However, the more eye-catching development is the involvement of two of the most iconic figures in franchise history.

Club legends Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin are believed to have agreed in principle to take on expanded responsibilities within the organisation. Rather than serving as primary decision-makers, the twins are expected to operate in supporting leadership roles alongside Gold, contributing their experience, knowledge, and long-standing connection to the club.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman previously indicated on the “32 Thoughts” podcast that discussions had taken place between the Canucks and the Sedins regarding a larger involvement in hockey operations, although the exact structure of their roles was still being finalised.

That view has been echoed by Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal, who noted that while both Sedins are expected to play important advisory and leadership roles, they are not anticipated to be the final authority on roster decisions. Instead, their presence is seen as part of a broader restructuring aimed at combining new executive direction with the experience and influence of two franchise greats.

Overall, the move signals a significant shift in Vancouver’s organisational approach, with the franchise leaning on a mix of fresh leadership and respected former stars as it attempts to move forward after a turbulent period.
