Olympic goaltender Jeremy Swayman reacts after costly and heavily criticised goal

Jeremy Swayman conceded one of the most unusual goals you’ll see at an Olympic tournament during Team USA’s clash with Denmark at the 2026 Winter Olympics—but fortunately, it didn’t cost his team the game.

The Boston Bruins star let in a long-distance shot from center ice by Denmark’s Nicholas B. Jensen of the Fischtown Pinguins. Jensen likely intended the attempt as a harmless dump-in, only for the puck to slip past Swayman and find the net. Despite the blunder, Team USA rallied to win 6-3.

When asked about the goal after the match, Swayman openly admitted he lost sight of the puck amidst the rink’s visual clutter. “It was a flash screen. Just the perfect height between the stands and board level. I truly lost it… No matter how they go in, you have to step up and stop the next one,” he said.

Broadcasters speculated that the puck might have blended with the color of the boards, but Swayman refused to make excuses, taking full responsibility for the mistake while focusing on moving forward.
