Wayne Gretzky delivers a measured and respectful view on team Canada and Team USA hockey squad
Excitement is building ahead of tomorrow’s Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics, featuring a rematch between Canada and the USA from last year’s Four Nations Face-Off final. When asked about political tensions between the two countries, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky kept things classy.

“First, let’s focus on the game—that’s what matters most,” Gretzky told CBC. He acknowledged his personal rooting interest, saying, “I’m a hockey player, I’m Canadian, I want Canada to win a Gold Medal.” But Gretzky’s main point was one of unity:
“At the end of the day, Canada and the USA are like brothers and sisters. They’re going to fight and argue, but eventually, you come together—that’s how I see it.”
